In 1656 Colonel Sexby engaged Miles Sindercombe (d1657) to assassinate Oliver Cromwell. The attempt was made on the night of 8th January 1657 bu failed and Sindercombe and his associates were arrested. This Declaration as well as ordereing the day of Public Thanksgiving includes a full account of the attaempted assassination. Wing C7066. An important act passed because there had been several plots to assassinate Oliver Cromwell. It includes a long list of the names of those who had been appointed to undertake the examination and judgement on those apprehended in connection with any plot against Cromwell. Wing E1123.
